Femmes for Freedom is a Dutch women's rights organization. We advocate for the freedom, equality and emancipation of women and girls from refugee- and migrant communities in the Netherlands and abroad. Our primary goal is full realization with CEDAW, specifically article 16: the compliance with women's rights and equality before, during and after marriage. In this way, our work directly contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality), ensuring women’s marital, sexual and financial freedom, breaking harmful stereotypes and combatting violence against bicultural women.
Femmes for Freedom is a grassroots organization. We work closely with the girls and women in the communities we represent in order to achieve system change. Together we develop education, lobby for sustainable political change and argue for improvements in social aid. Through this approach, we not only advance SDG 5, but also strengthen SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by amplifying the voices of marginalized women, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by pushing for legal reform and equal access to justice.
Our work impacts girls and women in the Netherlands and abroad, specifically when it comes to marital rights and freedom.
